We are a coalition of civil society organizations across the Global South who have come together to launch the #EnoughBigTech campaign.
Our Mission is simple but urgent:
To demand that Big Tech giants like Meta which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is held accountable for the harms across its platforms.
We remember when social media felt like a space for radical connection, self-expression, and solidarity. Today, that promise feels broken, replaced by a platform where misinformation, hate speech, and violence thrive. These harms have profound consequences - online and offline. This campaign was born from the conviction that EVERYONE, no matter where they are in the world, deserves to be online without fear. We believe that Meta is responsible for our online safety and we’ve had ENOUGH!
We aim to form a coalition of civil society organisations across the Global South to unitedly:
Influencing a key player like Meta can create a ripple effect, pushing the entire tech industry to build safer and more equitable online spaces for all.
For over a year, we have been diligently building this campaign on a foundation of research and evidence. We have listened deeply to those most affected, consulting with a wide range of vulnerable groups to understand the true scale and multi-dimensional nature of the problem. Our research highlights how Meta’s policies and practices have undermined our democracies, silenced dissent, and put the safety of millions at risk. These harms are not accidental; they are the result of a system that has routinely deprioritized the Global South, failing to provide our regions with adequate resources, safeguards, or even basic respect for our privacy. Our work has crystallized into a clear set of actions for change.
